XP Shutdown Command

When i use the winxp shutdown command it does not powerdown the PC. When i shut the pc down via startmenu it shutsdown and powers off automatically. Is there a switch or something to make it powerdown with the dos stutdown command? I have also tried to change the powerdownaftershutdown entry to 1 in the registry and this has no effect. Please help since I am doing a lot of remote desktoping.

Have you checked your settings in contol panel/power options/ advanced tab?

my PC does shutdown and powerdown fine when i choose it from the start menu, its when i use the DOS shutdown command it only shutsdown the Pc to the 'safe to power off windows' screen.
