have you done simple things like running disk cleanup / defrag etc , also may want to get a good regestry cleaner www.jv16.org is a good one also there is a "hidden" directory in XP called "prefresh" you may want to clear that out.

regarding the memory , i don,t know how much u have , but usually on laptops its SO-DIMM chips that fit behind a little cover (under machine) , it may be as well checking with Kingston /crucial etc what u can fit , and then sorce locally,

or install 2k (xp without the bells and whistles)

If you say that you have done disk cleanup and run defrag plus a reg cleaner on the machine , then the next suggestions would be to clear out all the temp files , clean out the explorer cache , and finally run a good anti virus programme on it (as you say u use it for surfing).

you have not commented how much memory you have in the machine + amound of space left on hard drive , or for that matter the amount of "junk" running in the sys tray.

as the link you gave did not give a lot of info on "your" machine , I would also ask if you have been in the bios and altered anything?

when you say it is running SLOOOOOw are you refering to the whole O/S or just the net?

as you are not (as you say in your own words) computer literate , I would on second thoughts suggest taking the machine to a local dealer , and ask them to do some spring cleaning for you.

good luck freddy
