Hello,
I just installed Win XP Professional on my computer and the only desktop icon I have is the recycling bin icon. Is there a way that I can have it recreate the desktop icons? I have removed the accounts and recreated them with no luck ;(. I am going to try a reboot and see if that works, does anyone else have an idea? Thanks in advance.

Right on...from task bar properties, goto start menu tab, and change to Classic Start Menu. That will bring up My Computer, the Hood, and IE on the desktop.

Thanks guys,
When I upgraded my Win 2000 installation those desktop icons and the goofy menu where there. So I was a bit surprized when they were gone on the fresh install. Now my next question is can you have the desktop icons plus the big goofy start menu? Thanks,

mmmmm yeah i thought you could. Damnit.
OK. Go back to normal bubbly XP mode. Then in the startmenu, rightclick on "my computer" then click "show on desktop". Do this to all the things you want back. EASY!

It's actually quite easy to do in one fell swoop. Right click on an empty space on your desktop (no icons), go down and left click on Properties (heres where you can change back to your goofy winxp visual theme). Now click on Desktop, then Customize desktop. You can put those icons back there by placing a check mark on each icon you want on the desktop (up top).

Actually, that was what I was looking for when I posted earlier. I overlooked that Customize Desktop button several times...but that is definately the best way to do it.
