Well after using XP my time is up, but its still on the second hard drive dual booting with windows 2000 Pro.
I decided to try and merg XP with windows 2000 Pro
Im still working on it but so far here is what I got.
1) screen saver, background icons. (shell32.dll)
2) copied the shell32.dll from xp to 2k
3) copied cmd.com to 2k from xp (XP Command.com)
4) msconfig moved to 2k (works great)
5) luna.theme moved and edited to 2k
Im still working on trying to get explorer.exe to copy over but it cant find the USER32.dll
If anyone has tryed a merge please post and tell us what you did.

as you can see, the command prompt is Windows XP not windows 2000, all the icons are now XP icons.
heres another shot.

the icons in the start menu are now from XP. In explorer you can see the nice xp icons as well.

I moved a few things like themes and stuff too but never thought of some of the changes you've made. Gee, all the eye-candy with none of the activation crap..... :D

As you can see IE 6 is installed, and the dos prompt running XP dos is now transparent. (upper right)

I had fun with XP on my laptop, that is untill I couldn't get a Novell Client to install, or work at all. I just have to say Novell 5.1 still is better than any version of windows!

Daemon, great idea! Let us know when you have something rock solid. Maybe you can put it in a self extracting .exe file for those of us too lazy to go thru all the steps. :)

Im running dterm instead of the real cmd.exe file.
I tryed replaceing the dos shell with it but if you do this and login into windows with batch file startups or just run it you will flood windows with dterm shells lol. I did this and I had to format and install gain lol.
But I did replace all the shortcuts to use dterm.

Thing thats weird, is im trying this at home also but im having problems adding the correct shell32.dll and have it display the good looking icons. maybe cause it was a upgrade ffrom 98SE to win2k pro and its not using the winnt directory. Dont know, Still working on it :)
But the one here at work works great. I should ghost it then ghost it to another machine and take out all the crappy programs leave it bare and upload it to my site. Then maybe if you all like downlaod it and ghost it to your machines.
Ill try this, When I have time.

Your ideas are really good. I hadn't thought of moving XP objects to Win2K (too happy to have everything working correctly - see my sig ;-))
I wouldn't suggest making anything available for download however, as Big Brother is likely to toss you a fat little copyright infringement, with software piracy thrown in to boot (I know that isn't what you were suggesting at all). I would just be careful is all....Perhaps just post the instructions of how to make the modifications instead http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/cwmsmilies/cwm7.gif
