Hi guys.
I tried installing win XP as an upgrade everything went well untill it needed file i386 it asked for the cd which I put in but when I clicked okay it did not transfer anything .so now I have a problem with a dll file when I want to try and load
XP Plus.I would like to do a clean install using fdisk .Do I need a boot disk if so is there one for Win XP if not how do I proceed to installing xp from scratch

Boot from any generic bootdisk with CD-ROM drivers. Make sure that you have SMARTDRV.EXE on the bootdisk as well. Boot off of the boot disk to a command prompt with CD-ROM support. At the command prompt, type SMARTDRV 8192 (if you have 128Mb of RAM or less) or SMARTDRV 16394 (if over 128Mb of RAM). If you don't do this step, you will spend absolutely ages (upto 3 hours!!!!!) on the initial stage of the setup whilst it copies the files needed. Switch the the CD-ROM drive and goto the i386 folder. Type WINNT & the setup process will then start.
