I am pretty sure that if your computer is compatible with win2k then it will work fine for XP.

If you want to do a clean install, then you will need a bootable CD rom.

I am going to disagree with you here, Matt http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/biggrin.gif http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/biggrin.gif

You can use a bog standard Win98 Bootdisk (or any other bootdisk) as long as you havfe CD-ROM drivers installed and SMARTDRV.EXE on the diskette.

Boot from teh diskette with CD-ROM support, then run (or place in AaUTOEXEC.BAT) SMARTDRV 8192 (if you have 128Mb of RAM or less) or SMARTDRV 16384 if you have more than 128Mb of RAM.

Then change directory to your CD-ROM drive, cd i386 run winnt.exe & Voila!!! This is the way I do it myself as I am too damn lazy to change my BIOS around http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/biggrin.gif http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/biggrin.gif http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/biggrin.gif

Actually it's an option on the cdrom. You'll see it when you put the cd in.

I think what the original poster is trying to say is that he wants to check his system for compatiability BEFORE buying WinXP.

My guess is microsoft will probly release a downloadable utility to test compatibility at launch time. Or you can always find someone who has a copy and use the check on the cd. This should be legal as long as you dont install anything. But it's probly best to check with uncle bill first.

Here is the Windows XP Compatiability Checker (http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWSXP/home/howtobuy/upgrading/advisor.asp), but be warned if you havewn't got broadband then you will be in for a long download as it is between 35 - 50 Mb in size!!!!!!!!
