Yes this is the new Windows operating system due to release on October 25th later this year. Microsoft says it is the biggest stp since Windows 95 and indeed it is. It is the most reliable and stable operating system yet.

Windows "ME" was just one of these "in-between" things as to say 'We Still Exist!' http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/cwmsmilies/cwm12.gif

Windows XP IS the next big thing http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/cwmsmilies/cwm27.gif

I wouldn't say it was any more reliable or stable than Win2k personally, but then again Win2k hardly ever crashes or freezes http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/biggrin.gif http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/biggrin.gif

Is Windows XP after Win2K or after Win9x?

Both. XP Home is on the 9x/Me line and XP Professional, Server, etc. is on the NT/2K line.

All roads have now merged. Microsoft's goal is to consolidate all their operating systems into one family (kernel). Home Edition and Professional will be followed soon after by .NET Server, Advanced Server and Datacenter Server in the first quarter of 2002.

The last time I checked, the Servers will not carry the XP badge, although it will look just like the XP Home and Pro. Instead it will be referred to as Windows 2002 Server, Advanced Server or Datacenter Server. I have beta tested the Advanced Server, and it did in fact label itself in the boot.ini file as Windows 2002 Advanced Server.

I have also heard rumors that they may refer to the Servers as Whistler, the original codename for XP, but this may have been premature information.

Yes, it is very good that MS got smart and is using the 2k kernel for both home and pro versions of the new operating system.
