[RESOLVED] driver substitution...

Hey Howdy Hey All Y'all!

I have a novice question (new to XP)
SO I put XP Pro on the home machine, and it didn't pick up my modem (creative ISA). Well actually it "picked it up" but didn't install/configure it. Of course CREATIVE does not have XP drivers for my modem in their site yet.

I started to set it up and tell it to use the 2K drivers off the CD but recieved a warning that perhaps that would be a bad idea, so i didn't (for stability's sake)actually go through with it...

Anyways my question is this: Can I substitute a 2K or 98 driver; is this a good idea; what is your experience with doing this? Is driver rollback going to save me if using a different driver chumps everything up?

as for as my experience with xp pro goes, all of the 2k drivers have worked on my system. im presuming that this is because xp is based on win 2k.

give the 2k drivers a shot. They worked for my Ati xpert200

Win 98 too.Had to for my scanner,cause visioneer didn't write a win 2k driver for it.As for the little driver message,screw it,and do it.And I think creative might have a driver for your modem under xp.

Have you been to MS knowledge Base yet? I have been informed that XP does not support ISA devices but I am not sure any input?

my old ISA SB16 works just fine under 2k.

I have installed an old ISA SCSI adapter (for an internal zip drive) on XP as well. At first I had some trouble with it, but now everything is running stable. As it was non plug-and-play, I had to add it manually through "Add New Hardware" and then allocate resources to it.

Not a whole hell of alot.First it's nice to see that xp finally made it to the knowledge base.They give you more info on the supported isa sound cards,but nil on isa modems.
