It is always best to perform a full install of the operating system rather than an upgrade. There tends to be less problems down the road. If you have access to a spare hard drive, you could set it up as a slave, x-fer your files to it, then format your primary drive and install XP. Then move your files back. If you dont have a spare, someone you know might let you borrow one. On a side note, I have found that you will save yourself much pain if you make certain all of your hardware and software are compatible. My video card and some games were incompatible with ME, and I ended up reverting to 98SE. Good Luck.

things like antivirus and utilities and things are most likey not going to work under xp .. even cd writer programs are not .. this is one of them cases where you will have to upgrade everything .. to use xp .. this compatable mode has been poor i have yet to have a older program work correct under it .. so with my suggestion i would do a clean install .. if you can find xp im sure you can find a way to backup those mp3s and photos and things
