I keep getting the Error Msg: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
STOP:0X000000ED (0X82F34738,0XC0000185,0X00000000,0X00000000)
when attempting to fresh install XP Home Edition from the XP CD. It installs the installation files but on reboot I always get the same error message. I have tried to reintall but get the same thing.

I have tried repartitioning and reformatting the C hard drive, checking for viruses and checked my bios settings. It still gives me the same error.

I have a Intel PIII 800 w/768 MB Ram, Diamond Viper 770 32MB AGP Video Card, Diamond Supra SP-I ISA Modem, SBLIVE Sound Card and a Gigbyte GA-6VXE7+ Mobo. Any body have any ideas?

CAUSE
This behavior may occur if the following conditions exist:

You are using an Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) controller with your computer.

You are using a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.

The basic input/output system (BIOS) is set to force the faster UDMA modes.

The file system is corrupted and cannot be mounted.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, perform one of the following procedures:

Replace the 40-wire cable with an 80-wire UDMA cable.

Load the 'Fail-Safe' BIOS default and reactivate the most currently used options such as USB Support.

-or-
If the second parameter of the Stop error is 0xC0000032, then file system is corrupted. Restart the computer to the Recovery Console, and then run the chkdsk command against the volume. After it is repaired, check your hardware to isolate the cause of the file system corruption.

Is this message similar to the one above- Stop Error c0000221 Unknown Hard Drive Error SystemRoot\System\32 NTD11.dll

Well I tried all the stuff that was listed except the ribbon cable to the hard drive. I thought to myself, it could not be that because it works in Windows ME. However, as a last resort I opened up my PC. The ribbon cable (which was one that looked much older that the others)still looked ok. But since I had nothing better to try, I replaced it with the cable that came with the drive (which was new) when I bought it and guess what? Win XP Installed flawlessly after that. Go figure? Thanks to all that helped especially the guy that gave me the various thing to try.
