ACPI

I have installed XP Pro on several computers (generic) and made sure that ACPI was enabled in the BIOS, but for some reason, XP did not install the ACPI components, and now these machines will not automaticly turn off. Is there a way to force XP to add ACPI? And does the same limition from Win2K still stand about multi-cpu systems not being able to use ACPI no matter how compliant the mobo is?

Have you checked the advance tab in power Options?

Yep, all that is is to put the power icon in the tray, all the power saving features work fine on these machines, just no automatic power off.

I think Danimal means the tab marked APM.

Go into Display Properties then Screensaver tab, click on Advanced and it opens up Power Option Properties, click on the farthest right tab marked APM and you have the option to enable Advanced Power Management.

That should do it for you.

That did it! At least on 2 machines so far, got 2 more to test.

Hmm, well I guess the old limitation is still there for multi-cpu boxes. My Dual cpu machine does not even have an AMP tab :|
