the native cd burning is awesome. it's so easy and convenient. it's just too bad that I can't read any of the cd's that I create. I'm using an old creative 4x cdr that worked fine before in 2000. and it behaves just fine... system detects it and writes to it. but can't read any of the cd's it creates. i'm not sure where to start troubleshooting this.

Did you try windows update? They put an update on there for cd burning. Also just to note the Native CD-Writing is based on ROXIO software which bought the rights to the software from Adaptec Software.

Just an FYI, Roxio was spun off of Adaptec, when they wanted to concentrate on hardware (SCSI cards and the like)

from the roxio website:
"Roxio, Inc. was incorporated in September 2000 and spun off from Adaptec, Inc., on May 14, 2001. Roxio is a publicly traded company (NASDAQ: ROXI) and is a member of the S&P 600 Small Cap and Russell 2000 Index."

Hope this clears this all up...

pretty sure it's all up to date. though in the week that i've had xp, two updates have already been available for it. so i suppose it wouldn't hurt to just keep checking.

My system did similar things until I got the updates.
