Excel 97 for windows. I have an issue where when I move the mouse, it's as if I am holding down the left mouse button and trying to select a range of cells. Problem is, I am not holding the button, but it acts that way. It only seems to be going on in Excel and not my other applications.
Configuration: MS two button serial mouse. P300 with 64mb ram, Win95 osr2, Office 97pro, pretty generic system.

Something that will sound silly, but have you tried another mouse?
Is the shift key on your keyboard stuck down?
I've looked on Technet, and their are no known issues.

I had the same problem with Excel 2002 on my laptop. Nothing worked until I downloaded and installed the latest Microsoft Office Service Packs 1,2, and 3. Try it.

Hehe just a guess but after 6 years I'm sure they either fixed it, replaced it, or found a unique way of dealing with it.

To correct this, click on the wheel button on your mouse. This occurred to my a few years ago, and I remember googling to no avail, but somehow I was able to fix it.
This happened to me today again, and guess what? It's caused by the scroll-wheel's click button!!!
Click that click wheel once, and watch the problem go away.
Enjoy.

Hitting both mouse buttons at the same time may also clear the problem (it has worked for me). There is a good post on the topic at:
