By going into the registry, searching for the path on your HD (c:\program files\microsoft office...) and deleting everything you find. Then delete the folder on the HD.

If you delete registry entries which simply contain the Office folder location you will be leaving around 20mb of crap in your Windows folder(s). Also you may loose important personalised data.

There is a tool to cleanly remove Office from a machine called ERASER97.EXE which can be found at ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles

There is also another for Office 2000 called ERASER2K.EXE as well.

Enjoy! ;)

Sorry, yes, I stupidly didn't bother to mention the files in the Windows and System folders but "loosing important personal settings???" He's trying to get rid of Office! And, after 15 years of supporting thousands of users with all versions of Office and back to Word for DOS v1.0 I don't need to dignify your flame with a response but even the worst mannered and ill considered opinions deserve a chance to learn something. When was the last time you ran the eraser97 utility and then went into the registry to check it's work??? I did a couple of weeks ago--if it did anything, it certainly didn't do very much. After running eraser97, I still couldn't run a new install of office with a different (now legal) serial number than was originally on the system (illegally). Manually searching and stripping the registry was the only workaround. I offered an easy solution--in these forums it isn't always timely to give the full answer and all its possible ramifications. In the future the next time you think someone has made an error or oversight, offer an opinion, ask for a clarification, but resist the urge to prove yourself smarter.

It's all well and good to offer opinions but i'd rather get a result.

Not everyone has the time to flatten and rebuild their machine everytime they need to remove an application.

My response was in reply to a specific problem related to Office'97 having been run from CD. The use of ERASER97.EXE definately removes the keys related to cd location and id so it will work!
