My question is with the O2K SR1a, when I load it the outlook security automatically stops all attachments it calls “Level 1” some of my users could not get there attachment they needed because outlook blocked them. Here is an exert from there page…
Once you install this update, you will not be able to access attachments with file types that could run executable code or change settings on a computer — actions that could allow a virus to spread. These file types are known as Level 1 security files.
Level 1 security files Level 1 security files (restricted access in Outlook) are files that may contain executable code themselves, or may contain links to other files that contain executable code that could execute a virus on your computer. Level 1 file types include program files (.EXEs, .COMs), script modules and files (.BASs, .VBSs, .JSs), Internet links (URLs, .ISNs), and shortcuts to files (.LNKs, .PIFs). For a list of these file types, see the Outlook E-mail Security Update — Frequently Asked Questions.
Level 2 security files File types on the Level 2 security list must be saved to disk before they can be opened; the files cannot be opened directly from within Outlook. There are no files types on the Level 2 security list by default, but file types can be added to the list by system administrators. For more information, see the Knowledge Base article (Q263297) OL2000: Administrator Information About the Outlook E-mail Security Update.
I guess if we need the attachments, we don't load the SP1a???

If you absolutely MUST have files of this nature sent by e-mail, try either zipping the files, or just rename the extention. i.e., program.exe to program.exe.removeme

That'll allow the files to slip past the blocking.

The actual solution is found:

1. doc was Technet article Q263297 Admin Info : About Outlook E-mail Security
Update (4 pages)

2. doc was direct from the Office Resource kit Journals : try www.microsoft.com/Office/ORK/2000/journ/ (http://www.microsoft.com/Office/ORK/2000/journ/)
outsecupdate.htm
(6 pages)

3. doc was the Readme.txt in the Admin pack and have a look at the Security White paper

Hope this helps. The readme file actually takes you through the Xchange server fix step by step. Would rec. that you remove URL, LNK (shortcuts)and EXE,
possibly MDB if you pass round Access files.

This will only work i fyou have an Exchange server, and i think it reverts back when Laptop users are offsite and OL2000 can't see the Xchange server - so zipping them would be a good idea, as mentioned by the previous post.

Create a folder in Outlook and move the email to that folder. Open Outlook express and import messages from that folder. Presto magico you have your .exe Beware though that you should have a virus scanner running before you try this.
