Ms Word 2000 and long hyperlinks problem

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot a FURL error?
Problem:

Create a hyperlink in MS Word 2000 .. THe hyperlink is very long..
Going through MS Word.. the IE or Netscape .. browser returns a BAD FURL error
If you copy and paste the link in the browser, it works fine. Thus.. it must be MS OFFICE??? Is it? and why?

I found out after troubleshooting that it is a MS Office problem. Does anyone one know of an MS article with this?
