A hello and thanks to whomever can help.
I bought Office 2k at a computer show (lots of venders in a market enviornment). After putting O2k on my pc I had to reformat the hard drive (the reformat was unrelated to having put Office 2k on it).
I go to put O2k on my system again and find that "two" of the characters for the "product key" have been scratched off of the jewel case. Now it seems as though I cannot put O2k on my system without the code.
Is there a way to contact Microsoft to get this "product key". Or can I find it on the disk somehow. Thanks for whatever can help. SFG :(

Call or email their product support and find out what options you might have. Straight from the horses mouth can save a lot of time... :)

425-635-7222 will get you MS tech support, just tell them you need a new product key code and why. They generate them by computer and will issue you one right over the phone. I've had to call them several times due to customers loosing their license etc and just tell them what happened, chances are you'll have to read a code off the cd for them and you'll be good to go.
Hope this works!

After you try Girl Geek's advice, re-post and let us know. I've suspected for a long time that even at reputable PC shows, parts, software and the like are being sold [at really great prices!] that were meant for destruction, are counterfeits or are black/grey market.
I'm just a little suspicious about just the last two numbers missing.

Thanks for the replies folks. I'm going to try GG's advice. And Len the missing numbers or letters were on the back of the jewel case when I first put O2k on my system. It seems that I have scratched them off over the course of the few months that I've had it. (Write those numbers down somewhere, hind sight sucks!!!)
And yes, at those PC shows you can get good deals on software and hardware. That's how I put my whole system together. One component at a time. (A minor success for me)
Thanks again!
I'll let you know how things turn out.

One small leap forward for this happy fellow!!
The second product key that the MS Tech gave me works. He told me it's an "OEM" key.
Thank you so much "GirlGeek"!! Now, why didn't I think of that?
It looks like I'm still one of those guys who doesn't mind getting lost. As long as there's a woman there to help me find my way. (But hey I did ask for help)
Sowulo, Len, Lag!!!
