Excel attachments won't open - not found

I have a user that has been able to open excel files fine for quite awhile, now, when he clicks on open (from attachment) he gets an error message that it can't find the file and cannot open it. I tried saving to disk, then opening Excel, then doing a file - open - browse and clicking on the file, worked fine for a couple days, now that doesn't work. He's running a Dell Insp. 5000 - PIII 800 w/128 Mb RAM, Win98se, Office 2000, shouldn't be out of resources or anything. Anyone seen this before?
