Can't initialize Creative Webcam +

I am unblae to initialize a webcam plus. I am running a P3-866 on an Abit SE6 board with i815E chipset. When I try to invoke the webcam control program I get a dialog box asking to "select viseo source". There is only one item in the source list, the webcam. When I select it, the same dialog box reappears. Eventually, i get a error message indicating that the camera couldn"t be initialized. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall latest drivers, used known working USB ports, and tried a self powered USB hub port. All have not worked. maybe a bad camera.

Does it work on other pc's?

Have you got the latest version of drivers?

I neglected to mention that I previously used a Philips USB camera that worked fine. At this point in time it also is unable to work. The point at which the Philips camera failed to work was when I upgraded my motherboard to its current configuration.

Try uninstalling the drivers in safe mode make sure to remove all References to both cams in control panel in safe mode..

In removing any reference(s) to the devices in control panel, do you mean merely "device manager"? Might there be references to the devices elsewhere in Control Panel? If so, where? Thanks for the help?

I'm sory I meant device manager in safe mode

I removed all the drivers of the webcam+ and the Philips cameras in safe mode. Also removed the USB ports and controllers in safe mode allowing Windows to reinstall them. I reinstalled the drivers for the webcam+. At this point, it is still repeating the same problems. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

I have substituted a add-on USB PCI card to solve another problem I had with USB ports. I tried the camera again connected to the add-on USB port. Still could not initialize the camera. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

my experiance is to take the camera and either

1) throw it out the window
2) use a hammer to smash it
3) return it and get your money back


I have had way tomany problems with these cameras. And there tech support stinks they dont know how to fix the problem so why try and miss with it if its not fixable?

I would go with a intel or sothing of the sort. $100+

Daemon, you were absolutely right. I tried an Interl PC Pro webcam. It also didn't work. Called Intel tech support. They walked me through 12 different windows files that were missing and needed to be re-installed. Needed to also download a later video driver for my video card and DirectX ver. 8. When that was done I had a working camera. It took a while but it was worth it. Also fixed some USB problems I had in the process. Many thanks. :) :)
