Ok:

Got a clone system, ASUS CUBX mobo, CD, CDRW, and a Fujitsu HD partitioned into two letters. System has Win98SE installed.

I am trying to install a secondary drive (Maxtor 10 GB) so I can use the main drive's antivirus scanner to scan it, but it doesn't show up in Windows. It DOES show up in the BIOS of the machine, and I know it is formatted & everything because it's a bootable Win98 drive from another machine. I've tried setting it up different ways (slave to the master drive, to the CDROM, etc.) but nowhere I put it does it show up in Windows...

No other noticeable problems with the machine. Any suggestions, anyone? I would have thought it a fluke and ignored it except that this is the second time this has happened with this machine--several weeks back had another good bootable HD fail to be visible in Windows...

Sounds like the Maxtor may have a drive overlay on it ... EZ BIOS or similar. I'd suggest setting it as primary master and see if you get a message about pressing a key (often the space bar) if you want to boot from a floppy. The driver overlay has to load first before booting from a floppy. If you do this, you can use a DOS virus checker to scan the drive.

Still scrambling up the learning curve ...
