Emails From Myself(I didn't send them)

When I just opened my email, I found one from myself saying that I had won some money. Since my "from" in my email has my name and this one had my email address, I opened up the properties and had a look. I did not open the email. When I checked the details it was from a person who I didn't know. If I try to block this thing(or even this address) I wind up blocking myself. I have contacted my email provider, but as this is a holiday weekend in Canada, I do not expect to hear from anyone til Tuesday. I am thinking the worst but am still wondering what happened. I do use a firewall(zone alarm), virus check(NA) is the latest. Anyone any ideas. I did save a copy of the properties from the email and it is written in html code :confused: .

It will also give you the originating server. It's a type of e-mail spam that i have seen (and been nailed by). My solution for it was to change my e-mail ID, since i had not giving it out yet.. Chances are your ISP will not help you out other then setup filters

I have seen this before a virus will spoof a email address from someone elses address book

The Klez virus could possibly cause this.

I have had the same thing plenty of times. But mine are all coming from various "fake" e-mails on my domain. I run a music store and have an e-mail setup for certain models and I will get e-mails from those "fake" e-mail addys from my site that other people use.

Example, 3047price@kesslermusic.com is an e-mail someone will send to for a Price on that model of horn. Of course, that is then put in their address book. I get about 20 KLEZ infected e-mails a day and they will sometimes use this address from the infected persons computer.

Don't worry about it but at the same time, don't open it. Just delete and you'll be fine. It freaked me out when I got the first one like that too!

When I rechecked the properties, the return address was as follows: mx4.mail.yahoo.com I do believe that this is a form a spam. I have had a number of messages from heaven knows who with the Klez virus and my virus programme has caught and quarantined them. After that I have deleted them. Who knows maybe it is just a one timer. I hope so.

The ones that I received with my own address did not have any virus attached to the actual e-mail but it was virus generated.

You might see more in the future if alot of people e-mail you (not just spammers but actual people you have e-mailed with) but dont worry about them. Just toss em.

It's bad enough getting Spam but when you find yourself sending it to you at least you can repremand yourself for being a pain in the A***.

This started happening to me when my ISP was taken over. I tried complaining without getting a response until I started forwarding them all to their support, before long I got a reply and the emails stopped. I don't know what they did but who cares so long as they stop.
