Is there software or some way to protect your passwords from being discovered by others? A friend of mine would like to shield her passwords, because her brother uses a program to discover her passwords, then alters whatever she has configured. An example would be her Yahoo email account. He uses software to discover her password, then reads her mail.

If anyone can help, that would be great.

Chances are he's using a key logger..

If she's the ONLY one using the comp, then i'd format to XP with NTFS and use encryption for everything.. If it's a shared comp.. Well...Use the character map (under accesories) and have her click out her password then cut and past it in..

if its a password cracker software (no names) then have her change her password to a harder one

Example:

MoonShine

M00n5h1n3 - a little better and harder to break, but if he is using a key logger try to find it and remove it :)

Use a BIOS boot password, and lock the case shut so he can't bypass the password by shorting out the motherboard.

Or go with the classic method: just beat the little punk up!

I agree that it's a keystroke logger. Look in the startup menu and also run the proggie that daemon recomends.

Also, lock the computer so that only 1 user can log on. Do not let the little bastard have any access to it at all. Give admin access to a brand new account she will use and disable all other accounts on the machine. That way he has no access to it at all and any logger he put on will be useless unless he uses a boot disk to access the HDD. Make sure the drive is NTFS to prevent access from DOS.

Before I did any of this I would have some fun with the brother by placing some disinfomational emails (you choose the level of deviousness)designed to embarrass him at the very least, if not worse.... Then run WWM from trapware and be advised a few spyware program developers have gotten wise to WWM and now make it crash when it's run. Also have her delete her .pwl files in win just to be safe....
