KaZaA is becoming a pain in the backside. I use Bearshare/Gnotella/Limewire and they all work fine. Bearshare does have spyware included, but at least they give you the option of not installing the spyware when installing the program.
UPDATE: I didn't have any problems until TODAY - I started Bearshare and the search window was obscured by an ad. Then it locked up on me. I promptly uninstalled it and went back to good old Gnotella. No ads, spyware, or other crap. Unfortunately Gnotella.com isn't around anymore, but if you can still download it here: http://www.gnutelliums.com/download/gnotella.shtml

I guest that I don't have to worry for now. I can not get it to work on my computer.

Grokster is just as bad. In fact, eventhough they give you the option to not install spyware, you'll still get lined with spyware (Just run adaware). In addition, there is a seprate component installed (Check in ad/remove programs) titled "Grokster add support".

Not the best method of starting a relationship: Invading ("raping", if you will) private PCs across the Internet.

i think it's time for a puropse specific machine, I'm gonna throw together a box that just runs all my sharing apps and not do any surfing on it, then share the dload folder and grab just the songs from my main machine...... But i second the notion of missing the good old napster days......

This works well, until it updates itself. You then need to remove cydoor and put the fake .dll in again. I have to do this about once per week.

Sure you can chase after all of those Spy/Adware.
or you can use a scanner that will remove it for you (very much like a viruscanner).
I use AD-Aware from lavasoft - It's free and efficient.
get it on Major geeks:

Yea, but most P2P programs check to make sure that the spyware is still on your system. If it detects that the spyware has been removed it usually won't work...
Thats where the fake DLLs come in ;)
