Are you SURE you got version 1.31? If I am not mistaken, version 1.31 is protocol 67.

You may have gotten version 1.30.

When you start up Quake 3, bring up your console by pressing the "~" key. You should see on the right side "Quake 3 1.31" if you do have 1.31.

If it is, then I would either

1) Uninstall Quake 3 and then reinstall

or

2) Download 1.31 again.

It does look like you are using an older Point Release.

Taz's recommendations are excellent.

BTW, you can also use the server's URL, quake3.king-nerd.com, to log on instead of the IP address.

It's easier to remember than a string of numbers ;)

Also, when you install the 1.3.1 patch, make sure that it installs into the same directory as Q3. If you changed the default dir when you installed Q3, then you have to change it in the patch. The patch isn't smart enough to search for the game dir.

Did Milenko reboot his server and forget to launch Quake 3 again? I just tried to connect and it appears to be down.

edit:Ended up being a firewall setting on my end. Looks like I missed most of the Windrivers action tonight - but there is always next time!

The obvious, are you connected to the net? Also, are you using a retail copy that you purchased with a legitimate serial #?

Quake3 won't allow you to list public servers if you have a duplicate or blacklisted serial #.

Probably already figured this problem out, but FYI, when I upgraded to 1.31, I had to install the point release three times for it to take correctly. It would show up as protocol 67 in the setup, but would still allow me to connect to pro. 66 servers, and not 67.

Possible fixes:

Unload any software firewalls you may have running (Black Ice, Zone Alarm, etc.).

If using Win98 - Sorry to say it, but you may have fallen into the "dark pit of ID despair". I had 3 ID techs working on this and I resolved the issue by installing Win2000 instead. Re-installing TCP/IP (twice) and formating the HD (once  ) did not help.

I got the same problem I had to uninstall Q3 then reinstall it, then put the patch on. It worked after that.

I could never get the servers when I load Q3, but if I load the team arena version, I can see all the servers, and when I go into the Milenko, it just loads up the regular Q3...

Plau around with the game selection settings. Your Q3 may be set for "network" play instead of "Internet".

Can't recall the settings off-hand, but it's worth a check. Set them up the same as they are in Q3TA.

Also, make sure that your network settings in Q3 reflect your current setup (broadband, 56K, etc.).
