External Parallel-SCSI CD Drive

I have a very generic external CD drive (connected to parallel port) that manages to install a SCSI driver in Win95 which appears to function correctly. However, I can't see the drive itself when Windows boots. If I install the Realmode drivers, I can see the drive, and even access some files from CDs, but cannot run any executable files from the drive (invalid handle error). The drive claims to be a "Venus Series" but has no FCC ID, and the drivers are from Shuttle Technology (1994).

Any ideas?
