I have a Fic503+ MB and an AMD 266 K2 cPu with 2 Maxtor HDs on the first controller and an LS120 and IDE CD ROm on the second. When I removed an older seagate drive from the slave position and replaced it with the 540MB maxtor i ended up with 2 listings for hard drive controllers as well as the VIA Bus master listing. I can delete the Bus Master listing but not the multiple controllers because windows says I need to delete the parent device. Since there is only one parent device it is not possible to get rid of the extra controller entries. Is there a way to edit the registry to get rid of all of the HD controllers and then allow windows to reinstall the drivers-hopefully correctly this time. RIght now I have an exclamation point under the primary controller and a phantom D drive which I would like to get rid of. I don't see the multiple entries unless I am in safe mode as suggested by shep in a deja news forum.

ANy help would be appreciated

Using the Registry Editor:

HKEY_Local_Machine
ENUM
PCI

Look for the VEN_ ....... line that has your controllers, then delete the line(s).

(It's a good idea to backup your registry first.)

Then reboot and let Windows detect.

Good Luck,
