just put together a P166 MMX PC with 96MB ram.. currently it's running WIN98SE stabley...

i have a SCSI card installed and about 20GB in external SCSI running on it as well as about 4GB of internal IDE running...

also have a SUN Sparcstation 5 w/ 128MB RAM and about 15GB of RAM...

my question:
want to set up a web server and need some advice on best way about getting that done... (preferrably w/ intel machine)

i was thinking about running APACHE web server (don't want to deal w/ IIS headaches) or something else possibly and need some reccomendations on web server software and a good choice for OS on the P166 machine..

originally i was going to work with the SUN machine but it is incredibly slow...

I am also wanting to set up an email server... and want some recommendations on best way to do that?? should i use SUN box for that, should i use intel machine for that?? if so, what software would be best...

cost is no option as i have access to all kinds of software thru friends, job, and such...

your advice is greatly appreciated...
thanks in advance fellas...

getit, burn the iso to cd, stick it in and let it do it's job.

I havn't found a machine that it doesn't install on yet, and you need next to no Linux knowledge to intall/run it.
Its got web serving, webmail/e-mail serving, gateway, dhcp, network file serving and webadmin built into it.

be warned it will format every disk on that machine when it installs, there is no way to tell it to keep any data.

apart from that... go nuts :-)

I know that that works for an intel based machine.. but will it work for a sparc based machine?? i just downloaded it from the site.. burned the iso to a cd.. however, when the auto-run feature starts, it pops up a Mandrake Linux screen?? the download is smaller that the Mandrake 8.2 download hioowever that is what the auto-run pops up..

then the site mentions that SME Server is supposed to be Red Hat based... looks a little fishy to me.. read the website.. sounds good, maybe like what I'm looking for, but still sounds fishy...

Is it normal for Mandrake 8.2 screen to come up??
