Have an xp Corp system with a yamahaa burnner and an ncr ro/cd. The burnener is always searching for what I have no clue.Doesnt matter if there is a disk in or not, doesnt matter if any programs are open or not. About 15 mins after start up it just starts searchin and slows or stops whatever program you are in. I have already lost my hair trying to figure this out. My head is next, Can someone help please

Does it work? Does it read common CDs and write on CD-Rs or CD-RWs?

Do you have your virus checker set to check the cdrom drive?

Download FILEMON from Sysinternal's web site. (http://www.sysinternals.com/)

With this you can try to narrow down the application/process that's trying to access the drive.

I wonder, also, if this is similar to a problem I've seen with the SendTo A:\. If that's busted, then everytime you access a context menu, the A: drive will spin.

Does the software create a SendTO entry for the CDRW?

Cheers,

Mike...

Thanks Mike for the reply. I will give it a shot. Therre are no windows that open when it goes into search mode. If you are not looking at the drive then your first clue is that mouse and KB quit responding fo 30 to 40 Secs
It will do thisabout every 15 or 20 mins. It will also do it if you activate a java or vrml script
thanks for the reply

One thing's for sure. This is a software-related problem.
Either it is caused by the burning software, or by another program that might be installed lately.
One of the best ways to troubleshoot this kind of problems is to boot into Safe Mode, uninstall them (first the other program and if that wouldn't help the burning software as well) and then restart the machine and reinstall.
