how to???

here's my problem, i did a clean install of winxp on one of my hard drives, works like a champ....but i got another install of winxp in the same box, different hard drive i can't boot into it and all the documents that i want are on that install....now is it possible for me to take ownership of the files/folders or should i try to reinstall the os....
I would like to know if i could take ownership of those files, and how to do it as it would be fun... i know that if i really needed to i could reinstall the os on the other hard drive...
i was bored and i was playing...this is what happens in the exciting state of maine..

set the drive you want the files from as a slave, boot normally, login in as administrator and copy them....

that's what i would of thunk...but i got the message 'access is denied'

If the files aren't encrypted, then another way to view, and copy the files are with ghost 7.5. You can image the drive with the files, and then open the image with Ghost explorer. You can download a trial version from Symantec’s web site.

Log on in safe mode as administrator - should get you there... but if the files were encrypted, you should throw in the towel.

If the files were encrypted try to repair the other installation. Why can't you boot to the other install? What's the error message?

Also, if your on a domain, you can join the domain with your new installation, logon as domain admin (the default encryption recovery agent) and access those files.

I have seen this before. I believe when windows xp boots it looks at all the hard drives to determine which dirve to boot from. When I have done a clean install of of XP pro on another hard drive I take out the original hard drive with the original XP pro. After install I manually jumper the old hard drive as master, the new install drive as slave. then I can boot to the old hard drive and move the files from that dirve to the new one. It wouldn't work the other way round. Also, when a customer brought a corrupted xp pro machine in that could not be repaired I put it in as slave and when I booted to MY hard drive it said my 30 day activation period had run out!
