XP Home logs in then out

I have a system with XP Home that as soon as it reaches the desktop picture (no taskbar showing) logs out again and dumps me back at the log in screen. It doesn't do this in safe mode. Any suggestions?
It's a recent system - only has Acrobat Reader 5 and Norton AV 2002 on and has had AoL 6 (now deleted)

The only time I ran into that was when the XP copy wasn't genuine, all the patched were loaded, and it booted right back to the logon screen after 30 days or so. Or if it wasn't activated in the timeframe.

That is the only time I ran into it, so if it is a genuine copy, hopefully someone else can help.
