This is what the messaged said when I tried to defrag my c:

Error Defragmenting Drive C:

Windwos cannot defragment this drive now because it has been locked by a disk utitily. Quit any utilities on that may have locked this drive, and then try defraggmenting this drive agian.

ID NO: DEFRAGG00105

I dont' have any utilites locked on this hard drive... what could make this pop up?

Did you install the Intel application acelerator, I had the same problem with defrag when I had Intels application acelerator installed
I even uninstalled it , I wound up reformating anyway due to some other issues :sad:

Happened to me the other day on a drive with 4 partitions. Got the message only on one partition. I had to reboot and shut down everything but explorer and systray. I think it had to do either norton av or kazaa. Never did figure out which, but I was able to defrag.

A lot quicker in safe mode too,that is unless you use a better third party software like Diskeeper (http://www.diskeeper.com/consumer/consumer.asp?RId=2)

Start>Run"msconfig">and uncheck everything except for System.ini and Win.ini. Then try a defrag.
