Okay, I'm trying to make a boot disk (not a start up disk) for XP. I went to www.bootdisk.com and checked out the procedure, seems fairly simple. Then the weirdness. I can't find ntldr.*, ntdetect.* or the boot.ini files on my system. I have my system set to show hidden files and folders and I turned off the "Hide protected operating system files" option.
It's a triple boot WinXP/98/Redhat system and the files aren't found anywhere in the FAT32 or NTFS partitions. I'm assuming they wouldn't be anywhere in Linux.
So. Anyone know what's going on here? I'm assuming I'm missing something obvious. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Ne'er mind. The new XP search applet doesn't search subfolders or hidden files unless you put in the little check mark thingy.:P

If you want the Real boot disk maker go to MS Site and visit

I think you will find it very helpful.

Ntdetect and ntldr are on c drive (in the root directlry), no matter how you have the partitions laid out.

Thanks for the help. I got everything figgered out and working, unfortunately it's not doing what I want it to.:P What I'd like is a way to scan files with a virus scanner (preferably Norton) at a command prompt. So what I need is some kind of boot disk that'll let me see NTFS files. Anyone got any leads?

NTFSDOS from Sysinternals (http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/NTFSDOS.shtml)
I know of this one although I have never used it so can't make any recommendations.
I'm sure there are other utilities out there, try a search on Google.

Well to read NTFS files follow this (http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/wd/showthread.php?threadid=43290) thread from Tech Tips. Whether it will work in tandem with NAV I don't know, or you could check out this (http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/wd/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43442) thread about fprot command line antivirus.
