Problem with Changing Identities in OE6 running with XP only

I have already identified this as an XP problem and not with OE6. I have three POP email accounts and sometimes when I go to switch identities OE closes down and I have to reboot to access it again.

I had this problem with XP Home and XP Pro Eval on my other computer and I also have the same problem on this new computer with XP Home. But although I use OE6 with ME on my other computer and so does my husband on his ME computer, there is no problem so it must be an XP issue.

Has anyone else had this problem and what is the fix please - I have of course got all MS updates.

But, it may have a bearing if the protected storage key is corrupt - give it a whirl....

You should also see if msn messenger is uptodate and check for viruses, particularly funlove and badtrans.

It was not running slow, it was just not switching Identities in XP but it is seems to have been OK for the past few days. Just one of those things and BTW I run Norton AV 2002 so it could not have been a virus.

I have been having the same problem since installing XP. I don't have to reboot though, I can just CTRL+ALT+DELETE bring up the task manager look for msimn.exe under processes and kill all occurances of it then launch outlook express again and it's fine.

I know it's not the best solution, but at least you won't have to reboot every time that OE6 doesn't launch, just kill the msimn.exe processes.

the other weird identity issue I've noticed is that sometimes mail from one identity ends up in another identities inbox and OE6 will keep downloading the wrong mail until I do the trick above.

Thanks for the info Kato. Very puzzling about your emails going into the wrong box. I can't say I have noticed that here but quite a few of my contacts use two or all of my addresses anyway.
