No one can answer this - hopefully someone out there can help. I installed a Philips external USB CD burner per instructions - PCRW464K47 and while "device manager" recognizes the device, "my computer" does not and will not assign a drive letter. I called Philips and they said that a conflict exists with my Iomega zip drive or the software. The zip drive is internal and there is NO Iomega software - in fact, it has nothing to do with the USB port. Adaptec [Roxio] 5.0 does not recognize the drive but while Nero 5.5 does not show any drive letter for the burner, it does burn copies. Anybody got an idea?

So there is a zip drive? What happens if you temporarily remove it?
What does device manager have to say about the usb burner?

OK, as suggested, remove the zip drive from the eqation, at least then you can say you've tried it when phillips try to put the blame on IOMEGA, is their any FAQ's on this situation??

Believe me I thought about removing the zip drive, but the more I thought about it the less I liked the idea. A friend of mine that lives nearby has the exact configuration with an internal Iomega zip drive with an internal burner from a different manufacturer and he has NO problems. I'm wondering if the problem is with a Philips product - naturally Philips won't admit to that.:guns:

Why do you not wish to try the remove zip drive experiment? Seems to me that if it has been made a suspect, it is one of the easiest things to remove from the suspect list.
You do not need to physically remove it, just unplug the power to it and disable it in bios if the bios is not set to auto.

The reason that I'm not too keen on removing the zip drive is that if it is indeed the problem, I don't want to give it up. Actually, I like using it and it does come in handy at times. I suppose that I could try a different brand burner and see if that works. Besides Philips could not definitely say that the zip WAS the problem.
