We discussed this a few weeks ago. You used to get it strait from MS updates, then had to hunt it down in MS updates, now no one seems to be able to find it from MS at all.

It is available at microsoft - but only if you know where

M$ Java VM (http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/MSJavx86_CD24D109B33421DB6728FBDC80C9F572EB7A3865. exe)

Suns Java works very well for many apps, but some were written with on M$ vm in mind and will not work with Sun's - no way no how!

Good luck

Thanks Noo, I've been looking for this. For some reason, Sun's version just annoys me.

OK, that is very odd indeed

Never had java install fail on me before in any os...

so blind suggestions

1. Try installing in safe mode
2. Uninstall Internet Explorer in safe mode, reinstall in normal mode then install java

Have you got any other browsers?

Probably some files it needed were locked by the os, in safe mode you cannot hear windows scream.....
