When I got there they had one copy of word perfect with a cracked key and wanted me to install it on 35 machines and train 15 people how to use it. When I enquired where I would be staying the night, they said drive home and return in the morning... Cleetus September 19th, 2002, 12:25 PM 1 and a half nights. Night stocking job at a major grocery store starting with a k and ending in a roger. I was in college, got a lot of crap from the yokels. Second night kept getting yelled at for silly stuff, then they started making very rude remarks. I got up and left. Then spent 6 weeks making sure that they paid me for the time I worked. King Grover September 19th, 2002, 12:44 PM 1 day working in a dry ingredients factory. I was the new guy so they made me crawl into the dehydrator, which is a f'kn silo, and scrub the walls with a 25 ft. pole. Hung up the phone, got a call 2 minutes later offering me job at a computer retailer I wanted more. Accepted it. Hung up, called the financial advisory firm, quit my job. TOTAL TIME: approx 5 minutes. DocPC September 19th, 2002, 01:01 PM During a lull in my then new computer repair business, I went to work for a temp agency. They sent me to a fiberglass mold shop to work for a few weeks. I arrived at the place, went in to meet the supervisor and get my assignment. He asked where my gloves, respirator, and coveralls were. I had been told that these items were provided. He said no, you need to have your own, but you can still work. I declined and left. Seems you needed to purchase $300.00US worth of equiptment for a $3.35US (then) TEMPORARY job! 5 minutes........ Fubarian September 19th, 2002, 01:43 PM I think my longest job is the one that just ended due to the place closing at 2 1/2 years and the one job I'm at right now I've been for almost 2. Loved it...thinking about going back to similar work and leaving the computer world behind. Shortest job - worked at Cracker Barrell for a day as a busboy. Tacklebox September 19th, 2002, 02:43 PM Worked for a caterer for one day back in '90. Worked my a$$ off all day for min wage:mad: Anyway I called for my schedule for the next weekend and told the guy I can't work on Sunday due to a previous commitment (I felt like going fishing). Me: "I just want to let you know I can't make it in on Sunday, I already have a commitment with my family" (I was going fishing with my brother) Them: (quite irate) "YOU WORK ALL WEEKEND OR YOU DON'T WORK AT ALL!" Me: "Ha- Ha, Bye" Quiet Thunder September 19th, 2002, 03:17 PM Last job was for about 4 years working for a local food chain. After that, I moved into my current position of 2 1/2 years doing all this fun, fun tech stuff. That's been it. I guess I'm bad at this game. Kymera September 19th, 2002, 03:25 PM I worked for a major record retailer (*am *oody's) for about 2 days. It was a very messy quit, because I refused to frisk myself infront of the store when I was leaving for my break. I considered it degrading, and unnecessary and I was not going to do it. It was pretty nasty, because I quit infront of a crowd of people who gathered to watch while I cursed my boss out. Akuma September 19th, 2002, 03:30 PM Shortest job.... 1½ hours @ a local restaurant. Was hired as a busboy, standard job. A little after an hour of first day of work, boss came in and told me to clean the Ladies room. K, not bad, got broom and a couple of garbage bags, opened door to find puke in sink, on floor and all over the toilet. Apparently a lady had gotten ill while @ the restaurant. While debating the best way to handle it, I heard the boss just laughing his @$$ off behind the register. Took the broom and garbage bags over to him, handed them over with my apron and never looked back. Two weeks later recieved a check for $4.76! The Computer Valet September 19th, 2002, 04:27 PM good for you, akuma. bastard boss. My shortest job was three hours. I worked at a grocery store, in tie, long-sleeves, slacks (required uniform) in 98 degree 110% louisiana humidity move grocery carts. Later that night I was offered a job as a dishwasher at a pizza place. I took that and left the grocery store. The grocery store people told me that I could _never_ work for them again. (Decently-sized southeast US chain). Oh well. I guess I can't. Longest job: Here at Rampage. 2.5 years. :-) Longest career segment: printing/pre-press 10 years.
