I'm having a major problem with Quake III. I'm trying to set it up on my Win 2000/NT laptop, and everything's working but OpenGL. It says that it only works on 95/98. Anyone have any suggestions?

I thought I might also tell you that it gets all the way through setup, and almost runs, but stops at the last minute...

Sounds like a video card problem. Check the settings for your video card and read the Quake instructions for anything special you have to do to get open GL. I had the same problem with Quake II. Open GL is not supported in all video cards.
Also, I would check the Quake website for any special drivers you might need.

i had a similar problem running half life in opengl, all it needed was a video card driver update. you may try that route.

Go to http://www.glsetup.com/ and download the OpenGL setup package if updating your video card drivers doesn't help.

GLSetup only runs on Windows95 and Windows98 due to time and space constraints. WindowsNT/Windows2000 support is planned for future releases.

HUH!?!?!
2k doesn't have compatibilty mode, you're thinking XP.
Alot of graphics chips in laptops aren't GL compatible, if you have an ati or nvidia chip, go to their website and get the drivers, most laptop manufacturers rip those features out of the drivers (such as openGL) that are not necessary to run business apps. Which is what laptops are made for, laptops aren't good gamers.
Get the drivers from the chip's manufacturer and it should be playable.

I take it you havent played around with Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 for Windows 2000. Compatibility mode is in both, SP3 adds Windows 98 Compatibility mode.
It has to be enabled first. It isnt automatically turned on.
