A virtual keyboard... opiate November 13th, 2002, 09:57 AM I was look through the best inventions of 2002 and came across this gadget. http://www.time.com/time/2002/inventions/rob_keyboard.html PuterGeekGirl November 13th, 2002, 10:01 AM That would be cool! I want one! Wonder if they come in ergonomic! :D Wayward Clam November 13th, 2002, 10:06 AM Originally posted by PuterGeekGirl That would be cool! I want one! Wonder if they come in ergonomic! :D I guess they come in anything you want to. You could project one onto someone's skin and type them a love letter... I can see the modernized version of Dangerous Liaisons now, "My darling, you proved a most talented keyboard..." :D Cobra X November 13th, 2002, 10:49 AM THAT'S TEH COOLEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN!!!11 I WANT ONE!!1  Quiet Thunder November 13th, 2002, 10:56 AM Yea, I've seen that before a while ago, when it was still a future thing. It's a really sweet idea, the only problem is, that when we type, we're trained to feel the responsiveness of the keys. We know what we've typed and where to rest our fingers, and where to place them next, based on the feel of the keys. That's why keys are curved in such a way. That also why people have a fairly difficult time going from keyboard to laptop keyboard. With this invention, how are we to know where to place our fingers? Also, how are we to rest our hands on the keyboard without consistantly pressing the virtual key. In short, it's a great idea, and a really cool invention, but I bet you'll find the people who are good at typing (the proper way) will hate it. Cobra X November 13th, 2002, 11:08 AM True dat QT, but keep in mind what this is mainly designed for - PDAs & cell phones. I don't know if you've ever used a palm keyboard, but it's not the most responsive thing in the world, and typing out a message using the keypad on a cell phone blows. This is definately an improvement over both of those methods. As a replacement for a regular keyboard, I don't know. Probably not for me. As a replacement for some things, I could see it happening. I mean, I'm currently using this: http://www.sonystyle.com/intershoproot/eCS/Store/en/imagesProducts/250x250/RMAV3000.jpg And love it. So, maybe this device will have some practical use. Cleetus November 13th, 2002, 11:58 AM Well I am currently using this, and I still don't think the virtual keyboard will help out too much. http://www.irwintoy.com/Cache/Product/Images/Product_49_ProductFeature.gif Stalemate November 13th, 2002, 12:21 PM I posted this one back in March (http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/wd/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35153&highlight=keyboard)... Hopefully development will be forthcoming any day now. scutterboy November 13th, 2002, 12:33 PM I like that a lot. windrivers.com
