media player gives static

I'm running windows media player 9 and every time I insert an audio CD, it tries to play but all I get is a static sound. can the program be bad? :confused:

Media Player 9 is beta

But you should try going into sound and audio devices in control panel, hardware tab, properties button, properties tab and unchecking the use digital audio box... it will force windows to use the cable that runs from your cd to your sound card rather than extracting the sound via ide.
