from what I have dome with cisco stuff... no.

not to say that the 8xx and 16xx are not in the same "Class"

the problem is with the features... Example... 2500xl switches

you have the 2525xl 2550xl and 2550xl-p

all are the same, but the 2550 has dual ports for fiber cards o gibabit stacking muduals.. and the "-p" is inline power. (yes +12v power on the cat5) It is used for stuff like IP telephones.

the IOS basicialy is the same and "PROBALLY" would work.. but cisco offically releases seprate IOS'es to match up with the extra features of each one.

Register for a CCO logon on there web site.. and you can go get and ISO versioon for ANY cisco product. (I recommend the newest unless TAC says otherwise or there is a know bug in the new one for what you need it for)

If you need any help let me know. I check back here often.

-Good Luck.

we had done it at our school with 1000 series routers but it was version 12.0 and not 12.12.

Also the teacher had plenty of RAM for those routers lying aorund so we did a memory upgrade. Worked fine :) :)
