NooNoo January 3rd, 2003, 12:28 PM quick way if the machine is on wd forums is to click the link at the top of any page entitled Join Other Techies In The WinDrivers Chat Room! - it uses java. If its sun java it will be showing in add/remove components. M$ java, not sure... techs January 3rd, 2003, 05:49 PM That's what I was thinking too, Sun would show up but ms java might only show as some numbered windows update. The click to join the chat room is a good test. thanks NEPATEC January 6th, 2003, 12:50 PM I have a small stand-alone app [29,696 bytes] that will not only tell you if the Microsoft Java VM is installed , but also what version #s the dependency files are. This has served me well in the past when verifying that the core DLLs are all the same version (some of the earlier VM builds would not update all of the dependency files, which lead to a plethora of errors when attempting to render jscript on a page) This is one of those handy files that no one seems to sit down and make the time to code, and it works on all vers of Windows (excluding, of course, anything prior to 9x) Just copy it to your \windows\system32 directory and you can run it from a DOS prompt to check the Java files. Drop me an email at XPerts@msn.com and I'll email it to you -mike techs February 17th, 2003, 09:34 PM I found a very easy way to see if Java is installed in XP. Go Start-Run type cmd press enter. At the command prompt type jview and press enter. If you don't have java you get a unrecognized command reply. If you do have java it tells you what version you have.
