I am searching to find out if there are Longer IDE Cables. I recently installed an MSI KT4V board that has its 2 IDE connectors where most boards have the IDE Raid connectors.
The problem is that I use a full size case. So with2CD Rom drives in a full size case, a standard IDE cable is about 2" too short. So I can only connect one CD Rom Drive.
I need an IDE cable that is longer between the secondary connector plug and the board connector plug.
Any ideas?

NooNoo,
Thanks. Something exactly like that. I actually found the same cable at my local PC Club store that they just got in today. Should work just fine.
Question though (since you appearantly have all the answers): They did tell me not to plug it in for hard drives which I wasnt going to anyways. What is the reasoning for this? I have heard this before from Promise Technologies when one of their RAID controllers died on me a year ago. They asked if I was using longer cables because they wanted to say it was the cables, not the card that caused the data loss.
Just curious.

The longer the cable the greater the attenuation.. that goes for anything. Therefore any data can degrade along the length of a cable.
The techinicalities of how that affects hard drives I don't know.

General rule of thumb seems to be no longer than 50cm for hard drives.
Have not had trouble with 60cm ribbons on a hard drive so far

I have used these Vantec silver shielded cables but have not gone over 24" long. Don't know if those 36" inch cables are a good idea or not. I am presently trying to figure that one out...
