Just built a machine for a friend... have tried 2 fresh installs of windows xp pro now and have ebcountered the same problem each time. The pc works fine when in windows but freezes when i try to either restart or shut down.
I have checked all internal componenets(memory, cpu, harddrive, dvd soundcard) and they they are all fine.
I have reset the bios defaults and tried again but with the same problem. i am about to try windows 2000 pro in desperation.. any ideas whould be extremely appriciated..
machine setup is as follows... asus a7n266vm(with onboard gf2, lan, audio disabled) sound blaster audigy, athlon xp1600, crucial ddr2100, ibm 120gxp(40 gig) . I'm using a CWT amd approved 350watt dual fan psu(which has been running fine in another machine).
the freezing occurs before and after ive actually installed any drivers.. but the earliest it has happened was at the end of the xp install just before the final reboot.
the motherboard might have taken a knock and im wandering not surprisingly if this is the problem..
thanks anyway
