(sigh) I have been looking everywhere, surf lot of websites trying to find USB driver for my XE783 HP since yesterday and still looking. I was hoping mabye you know or have it for me to download...that would be greatly appreciated.

I use to have Windows ME til something messed up and couldn't start up my computer -- need to have RESTORE CD which I dont have. This HP computer was given from my fiance's mother, she didnt have CD for this HP computer. So, I had to format my hard drive and all and installed Windows 98 CD and BOOT DISK. So since this HP was installed Windows ME and all motherboard and etc are new which Windows 98 dont have like USB driver, etc. *laughing* I hope you understand what I am trying to say? So, Im just in need to have USB driver then all will be fine. :)

Thanks a bunch!

when you say usb driver... what did you have in mind?

The usb controller or a usb device?

(blush) I have no idea...I have intel webcam USB and it wont work at all so thats all I know that USB is not working and need to download to have it work. I dont know which one do I need? Why dont you give me both of those and I'll try USB device first -- if it doesnt then I'll do the USB controller. :/

Hmmm, well I thought I'd better explain little more so that way you will know what I need. Ok, here it goes...Its internal USB -- usb comes with motherboard which you can't remove it like to replace new usb (insert USB in slot). Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Heather

ok....

Need to do a little checking

Start, settings, control panel, system

At the bottom you should see usb root hub and usb controller... do either of them have a ! beside them, are they even there?

If they are not there, you will have to enable them in bios,... but they should be.

Will also need the model and any number details you can find about the intel webcam.

Yep, both are there. Funny, I just realized that my fiance haven't installed intel webcam software. Let me restart my computer and install. I'll post to update how it goes after I do this.

Allright, I have uninstalled the wrong software my fiance installed and installed the right software for my intel software then restarted my computer. After it was done restarted, I got popup from windows that says :/F windows then I click OK, didnt work, then I click Cancel button. Then I clicked my webcam software but doesnt work. (sighs) It has to do with this windows 98 that dont have HP USB information.

I am very interested in that popup... could you tell me if it said anything else? :/F looks like a typo ... or is it?

When you installed the webcam software, was the webcam connected?

Your chipset is also intel 810... therefore you also need the chipset drivers... available here (http://downloadfinder2.intel.com/scripts-df/Detail_Desc.asp?agr=N&ProductID=178&DwnldID=4841) ... note it says for usb to function properly!

Webcam... model please? If you are not sure look here (http://support.intel.com/support/createshare/camerapack/idversion.htm)

Ok, I already installed chipsets you gave to me...it installed fine but still doesnt work to have webcam on. Ok, my intel webcam model is CS330.

And can you please give me link where I can download for XE783 HP Windows 98 USB driver? I think that might be it what I need. Just in case though.

Thanks a bunch for your help! Greatly appreciated!

Heather

here are the latest drivers for 98 for your webcam (http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Detail_Desc.asp?agr=N&ProductID=460&DwnldID=3972) There are updates available for your create and share, but it depends which one you have...

You can select them here (http://www.intel.com/support/createshare/camerapack/idversion_cs330_version.htm)

OK, I checked the specifications for your machine. There are NO usb drivers for your machine under windows 98. HP will only support windows ME. The drivers I posted at intel ARE the drivers that control the USB. What you are having is installation issues.

Please explain exactly how you have tried to install the webcam so far. Starting with whether you had the usb cam plugged in or not when you loaded the usb cam drivers.

NOTE: When I try to open intel webcam, it showed: "Unable to connect to capture device (e.g. camera) if another application is using the capture device, close it."

I dont know what another application that are using the capture device -- what should I be looking for and remove it?

Thanks a lot. :)

NooNoo

It will be something like a tv capture or rage theatre that stops it... have a look in device manager under sound and multimedia for tv capture.

(sigh) I guess I'll leave it to my fiance to have some removed that were blocking that couldn't be able to open my intel webcam since the another application is using the capture device. Man, Im so clueless. heh

the only thing that ME may have solved is the default drivers that the OS is providing. if you were to find the correct drivers for the "mystery" hardware, win98 would've been just fine...ME is not better than Win98...period

PeasonH

Well, this model is only a year old -- motherboard only supports newer not older devices so which means its impossible to have windows98 to work properly with this newer model. So I installed Windows Me -- all is working fine. I dont even have to go search for devices I need -- Windows ME already have softwares for devices what I have on my computer.

did you read my post? winme simply provided drivers for whatever "mystery" usb hardware you could not load, win98 is a way better os than that, why buy winme, you could've bought winxp home or pro? then it would've surely worked right off the bat with your year old computer.

I don't think she cares about XP being better than ME. All she knows is that ME fixed her problem and that's all she wanted.

There is no separate win98 usb driver for the xe783 model.
According to the specs with this system, it has an intel 810 chipset.

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=bph06558

The usb is integrated into the chipset.

So you need to install the intel inf driver to have a windows os properly recognize the chipset, agp and usb.

http://downloadfinder2.intel.com/scripts-df/Detail_Desc.asp?agr=N&ProductID=178&DwnldID=5010

If you already have installed this, then your usb should be working. Best way to check if usb is working is to test it with a generic usb 2 button mouse or printer. If those work, then usb is working. You might still have a conflicting issue with that webcam. See if you can borrow a different one from a friend for troubleshooting and testing purposes.

That may answer your question.
