I loaded my external CD on an Win 98 OS and the system is unstable. I have found that Win 98 has it's own UPDATED driver and that I should have manually installed the external CD. Under 'Support' > 'Drivers' at http://www.Mitsumi.de/englisch/start.htm
Now that it has said that I have given my computer a old driver I need to find out the name of the correct driver and how to install. HELP, please!

One thing to try is going through the add hardware wizard in the control panel, and see if it gets picked up.If not get the driver from that page you mentioned, under support, and install it.A little more info would've helped, like is it usb,or lpt1 port, and what model.Make sure both of them are active in your bios, and windows.

Boot into safe mode and remove the cd-rom drive from the device manager listing.

When you restart the system and it picks up the drive and prompts for drivers, click cancel and then followthe instructions from the manifacturer. If not then manually add another cd-rom drive they way the tell you you should have and then go back and remove the the automatically installed one. ( Do from safe mode)

Hope this helps...
