This is one game that passed me by but I've always heard good things about it. Worth checking out? Worth playing online?

Okay - silly question(s):
I recently just installed the expansion pack and have spent most of the afternoon playing. Even though I've had the game for a while this is really the first time I have played.
That being said:
1) to play online do you recommend first completing the single player acts - if so how many?
2) Can you not take a character developed from single player games and use him/her on multi-player games?
Any tips for playing online for a LOD newbie? As I seemed to be completly lost once I connected to battlenet.
TIA

1) I would recommend not doing anything singleplayer, because you can just password a one person game and play by yourself if you really want to. That's actually what I did pretty much for all my chars.
2) a single player character cannot be played on the closed realms at all, and I believe even the open realms, though I could be wrong about them. (and play on the closed realms. open realms suck with all the cheating and such).

I agree, it takes a long time to install the expansion pak Game.
I like going on line and playing in single player mode, by creating my own game and password protecting it. I've found if you don't do that, and you create a game, someone comes and steals all the goodies, before you can get them!

I bought DII 3 months after its realese and never stop playing it. After when expension came out, I bought it the really day it was out. And I never been more than 3 months without playing that game. Unfortunally I do not have hi speed internet so in 56k it is not really playable on the internet. So me and my friend play thru small networks.

These game are great for playing with another person who doesn't have broadband. Starcraft passed me by on the first go, and me and my best friend are now having a blast playing it. Too many games....too little time.

I was fortunate to be in BETA programs for both D2 and D1 and still play D2 sparingly. All of my chars are at lvl 99 and I try to play at least once every three months on all accounts so the Blizz doesn't erase anything. (worked hard to get all that stuff !! ) Tho Blizzard has been busy with Warcraft 3, and if you're interested in that BETA program, go here: http://www.battle.net/register/war3xbeta/
they still listen to talk about Diablo 3... see this: http://www.diabloii.net/ and I suppose it's only a matter of time before we see the birth of a third installment... There's just too many ppl out there like ourselves that create the necessary demand for production. I would assume Blizz will go all out for D3 and that's pretty nice...
Happy Gaming !!! :D

just to mention that it is fan's talk. It is how it should be not how it will be done. And after 3 years I am still playing. I have played with a Palandin and killed Diablo & Baal without expension. When I bought I have played with the assasin and finished it also. Then I started a game with the necro but on act II I was too weak so I put the game aside. Lately I started a new game with a Amazon and an other with a barb'.So FUN

Did the beta test suck as bad for you as it did for me? I think I got to play about 5 hrs before I got sick of the whole thing and gave my beta access number out to someone who would get a little more use out of it

I did think the Beta on D2 was pretty lame; back then it seemed "large" tho... I remember being impressed at how far I could travel... lol And it was a definite improvement over D1. I honestly believe that D3 will incorporate some of the tricks of all the newer games and really come out swinging...

1.10 is done and will be out... one day....
as copy 'n pasted from www.diabloii.net
There have been a lot of rumors flying around lately that v1.10 is nearing completion, but there are always rumors about that. Well this time it's different. We have confirmed with a source at Blizzard North that it's true. The v1.10 patch is complete and will be released as soon as the final round of QA testing checks it out.
There is no ETA, so don't get excited yet, and if more bugs are found by QA then the patch would still need work, but this is essentially a "feature lock". As a bonus tidbit, we were told that one or two skills will have new graphics. We don't know which.
