Boot errors after installing NIC drivers

Hi,
in all the times installing WIN 98SE, sometimes after installing drivers for NIC crads and rebooting, I start getting errors of, vnetsup.vxd, vredir.vxd and dfs.vxd in the system.ini file during the booting process of win 98. I have never resolved or successfully troubleshot this problem. I always just formatted and reinstalled 98 again since this was a problem which occurred after installing 98 fresh and installing the drivers. It was always the NIC card drivers that did this.

Anyone know what this is and how to resolve the issue without formatting and reinstalling 98?

Today is your lucky day!!!!!! Here is how to fix this issue::

the issue is actually the dial up networking components are corrupted, first open network properties and remove everything, dont reboot, uninstall communications from add/remove, reboot, reload communications, double check all of networking components are reloaded and you should be all set!

Agree with the above with one addition. I've usually had this happen after installing (physically) a NIC. When I boot up the computer and it finds the card, it will attempt to install drivers. The problem happens when I don't remember where the drivers are located and I cancel the installation so I can find the drivers and then try to install. Possibly what happens is that Windows starts setting up the network stuff, but since it was cancelled it got confused. Even though I installed the drivers correctly after the initial hardware discovery, Windows still messes up the installation. As above, just remove all of the networking stuff from Network properties and reboot. Then (making sure I have the disk or know where the files are on the hard drive) reinstall the driver when it rediscovers the hardware. Make sure you setup the dial-up networking components and... voila!....no more errors.
