How to stop Flash from dloading

OK I have IE 4.0 and I do not want to see any
flash crap.

Whenever I go to a webpage that force-feeds it's
flash to me, this happens:

1) my browser dloads the 50K-250K flash data file,
2) I get a popup message asking me to install the flash pluggin with a check box to "always" trust Macromedia.

I wish there was a check box to "never" trust macromedia, but oh, well.

Anyway, this question might be a little too technical for this forum, but how can I get either (1) or (2) from above to stop happenning (or maybe even both!).

In other words, I dont want the flash data file to be dloaded by my browser and I don't want to see that damn pop-up anymore.

I am willing to move to a new browser if that's what it takes.

I am using Win98.

The download box is part of activex controls and install on demand. I cannot remember ie4 clearly and therefore are unable to lead you through disabling these features today, however I will be playing with a laptop later with ie4 on it and will (without getting too technical) look for the appropriate configuration in ie4 and its associated registry entries.

Try upgrading yer browser a little here it might save ya some headaches

That was a completely un-usefull comment. I use IE 5 and 6
at times and all browsers behave the same way in this regard.

Can someone ELSE help me with this problem?

I just installed it and it seems to be working nicely.

from your post may have had something to do with. I did wonder, since I found those links in something like 30 seconds, why you bothered posting your request at all if you felt that we were likely to be unable to answer you because we are not "technical enough"

Before you protest that you didn't mean it to be read "that way", 3 people saw your original comment and came to the same conclusion.

Perhaps leaving out emotive pre-judgements on forum members capabilities would elicit a better response from the members.

I see your point. I will be more careful in the future.

I will ad that the reason I made the initial "too technical" comment is because I am new to this forum and have not seen replies to my previous posts to suggest that the people who would read my posts would be very technical.

This was an oversight on my part and was not meant to be offensive. I apologize!
