Hi.

I have a Netgear router at home with two PCs sharing a cable connection (WinXP Pro on both machines).

I activated remote access on one PC and also went into the router's config page to allow access to port 3389 and redirect all requests for that port to my computer's ip.

When I try to connect from the 2nd PC that I have at home it works just fine. When I try to do it from somewhere else however (again, with WinXP Pro) it doesn't work. I get an error message saying that "the client could not connect to the remote computer."

I would really appreciate some help on this.

Thanks!

Did you reboot the router after you made the changes? Also are you sure your ip didn't change AFTER you rebooted? I would use a service like no-ip.com (http://no-ip.com) and run their update tool on the system. That means that you only have to remember one name instead of the ip address. Sounds to me like you got everything right. Do you have any firewall software running on the system? If so it will have to be configured as well.
