I've got a dual boot sys with win98se and XP each on it's own HDD and an extra HDD with a DVD and a cdrw. Gigabyte 7dxr with the promise ata100 chip. I can't seem to figure out how to install StarTrek Next Generation A Final Unity!
I keep getting a red line thru the cdrom, saying error with a suggested fix-- that I update my cdrom. I also get a red line thru the files =20 and folders=20 I can't seem to set this.
I put 2 new lines in config.sys files=20 and folders=20, but it still doesen't read it right????
Any help would be appreciated!

Runs fine for me...
But - in 98 try setting a new autoexec.bat and config.sys.
Is the cdrw on the onboard ide or a controller card?

I've tried to avoid loading mscdx drivers for the cd rom. I guess I could take the OakHill drivers off the win98 setup CD. and try to use them. You see starting in ms Dos doesn't see the cd's so I imaged a file of the cd to the extra drive but it will not work. At least not to install! If there were some way to force the installation, I'm sure it would work! ;)

On the final unity cd you should find instructions on how to create the perfect boot diskette for it... try that.

But on a dual boot system it makes it hard to do!

Why is it hard to boot from a boot diskette on a dual boot system?
Just for giggles I tried to install it in XP. I got exactly the same problem - reads the CDrom speed incorrectly as less than 300. Interesting.... now I am gonna have to play to find out why it's doing that....

Right, the proggie thinks you have a 386 machine, since its not a 486 :p
So you need This patch (http://dlh.net/cgi-bin/patdl.cgi?lang=eng&sys=pc&file=nxgenist.zip) to run it. I now have it installed in XP - I did have to turn down the hardware accelerators and I am still playing with getting the sound right, but it will install!

Thanks Noo Noo, I'll try the patch and install in XP! Still, sooner or later I'm going to have to get my cdrom to be seen in DOS mode of 98----How inconvient! To have to learn more DOS!
Time went by.
I guess it really isn't hard to make a boot disk on a dual boot sys--- just seemed like it would be, but after reflection your right. My problem is still how to get the DOS to see the cdrom. I thought 98 did it for you!
I downloaded nxgenist.zip--- now several times, but winzip says it's corrupted and won't let me open it?
So I guess I'm back to getting the cdroms, or at least one cdrom, seen in DOS.Thanks NOO NOO again !

When you run the game installation in windows it gives you the option to make a boot disk, to which all you have to do is add the cd rom driver lines, and the manual tells you how to do that. Here is a little tutorial (http://www.duxcw.com/faq/cdrom/cdrom.htm) and here too (http://www.winplanet.com/winplanet/tutorials/487/4/)

Well Thanks again, but I seem to always screwup before I get back to the forum!
Now I pulled a real dumb move. I pulled out an old cd driver disk I had for an old cdrom in win3.1. I install the drivers from a dos box in 98. Couldn't figure where it installed the drivers though-- I could never find the autoexec.bat or the configsys. Ivould go back and forth from 98 to boot into dos and back to 98, but with a full reboot I could no longer get to 98 at all. I thouight it was sys C:t ime but that just lost me XP too as I suppose it messed with the MBR on C:
I'm now looking to reinstall first 98 then XP and then Linux, as that was my originasl goal. To triple Boot. God what problems I'm asking for?! I've got my linux disks back from loan.
As soon as I'm up and running on my machine again, I'll tackle this again. Final unity is a game I've never completed, and I want too. I've goten as fa ras capturing the energy zapping beast, but havn't gone on! Thanks again NOO NOO!!

I just got done playing it it 98 booted to DOS. Pioneer had a dos driver for thier DVD rom's!!! I installed that under DOS in 98 and then I could install the game properly and it works like a dream. I do have all accelleration turned off in the bios. I may turn it back on and see what difference it makes?!
